Gel Candles Visually Enhance Your Enjoyment

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

In today’s world candles are more of an atmosphere enhancer or guilty pleasure than a necessity. It is comforting to have a candle burning nearby, and definitely pleasurable smelling food, floral or exotic scents throughout the house, but hardly necessary. Gel candles add yet another enjoyable nonessential dimension, delighting us visually by glowing and sparkling spectacularly and making the flame appear to float atop a container of transparent liquid.

Hobby enthusiasts commonly use gel wax in pilsner glasses, goblets, or mugs to make faux beverage candles. More often than not their creations end up as a permanent novelty home decor item, never getting used as a candle and showing off the unique features of burning gel wax. Given that outcome, it seems that they would be better off simply creating a faux beverage and not including a wick, which detracts from the illusion when the candle isn’t burning.

Most candle lovers prefer to actually burn candles rather than admire them, so we have long offered gel candle selections that are both functional and attractive. They all come in a broad array of fragrances, and there are even aromatherapy blends available. Containers range from elegant tumblers with prismatic bases to country chic French-lid canning jars.

There are some practical considerations to burning gel candles. Gel wax burns with exceptional efficiency, which impacts two lesser known, yet related features: candles made from it have long burn times; its efficient burn minimizes soot and impurities being released into the living space.

Christmas Cheer For US Troops in Iraq

Infantry unit gets unexpected holiday gift.

Last year a customer purchased a 6-month subscription to Candle of the Month Club. He was treating himself to an economical indulgence and one that would give him 2 candles of different scents each month. The order had a delivery address which looked a bit unusual. As always, the online USPS database was consulted in an attempt to verify the accuracy of the address. When the query returned a message indicating that the address may be undeliverable, contacting the customer was the next step. A call to his cell phone was answered on the second ring and the reception was amazingly clear. He assured me that the delivery address was correct and that he received mail there on a regular basis. The email address provided on the order seemed to indicate that he was a member of the military currently stationed in Iraq. When asked about this, he said that his tour of duty was for an entire year. This prompted me to inquire how many other individuals were in his company. I thanked him for his order and, more importantly, for his service to our country.

A few weeks later, on October 1st, a box containing 16 Hollyberry & Balsam votive candles and 4 Pumpkin Spice votives, each nestled in its own votive holder, was carefully packed and shipped. A brief note was included to our customer and instructed him to give one votive to each person in his company. Naturally, one of the votives was for him. It was our hope that lighting the votive would bring back fond memories of holidays past and bring a bit of comfort to an otherwise stressful tour of duty.

Candles For Foodies

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

Beware, we are tempting foodies with chocolate, coffee and bakery scented candles.

In the early days of wicksworks.com, one of our main product categories featured candles that were replicas of various foods and beverages. Unfortunately, several years ago the person who made those candles for us retired and we were unable to find someone to take her place. Albeit on a smaller scale, we are once again able to offer some cool faux food candles on our new Chocolate, Coffee and Bakery Scented Candles page, whose name we shortened to Candles For Foodies on the navigation menu of all our pages so it would fit better.

Chocaholics, coffee junkies and anybody with pleasant memories associated with smelling something yummy baking in the oven will enjoy these new additions. Both the chocolate and coffee scented candles are housed in a stylish glass mug, respectively mimicking a cup of hot chocolate or coffee. The chocolate candles are available with a choice of three scent blends and the coffee candles with a choice of five. The bakery scented candles are fashioned after a Bundt cake. They come in eight different mouth-watering fragrances. Please don’t hate us for tempting you with deep discounts for purchases of one candle of each scent in any one category or a coffee and bakery scented candle gift set.
